ABOUT DAD

Meet my dad. He's your typical dad-- the lawn-mowing, chrismas-light-hanging, handy-manning, guitar-sliging, all-American dad with 8 kids and a wife of over 40 years. Dad was always a home body and spent his time making a life for his family. Then one day, when all of his kids had moved out (and back in, and back out), Dad said, "Hey, I'm gonna bike across the country!" What an adventure! Except biking across the country takes time and money, and since dad's a pretty frugal guy, he decided to do it in spurts. In 2014 he started taking off 2 weeks each summer to bike as far as he could across the states, picking up each year where he left off the last. He started on the coast (literally. In the water.) of the northwesternmost point of Washington and is riding east toward Maine.

2014, Day 6: Hard Is An Understatement

"Hard day was an understatement. Of the first 40 miles, 32 were steep upgrade. What was so demoralizing was that there was a steep...

2014, Day 5: Easy day, really.

"Drove back 50 miles to starting point. There were a couple of good hills today – but then back down to elevation. Still haven’t made it...
