Today Dad departs Highway 2 for Highway 28, hopefully the number change isn't representative of level of difficulty. As they hit the departure point in Wakefield, they happened upon this statue in dedication to Nee-Gaw-Nee-Gaw-Bow, translated as "Leading Man." The statue is carved from a single piece of pine, and is one of over 74 created by Peter "Wolf" Toth, for his project, The Trail of Whispering Giants. The statues were created to honor the lives and losses of the Native American tribes. There is at least one in every state in the US.

From Dad:
"Sunshine! First time in a week! Temps in the 70's, small breeze. Climb out of Wisconsin into Michigan had net elevation gain of nearly 100 feet, but most of the hills were gradual. There were 3 or 4 real doozies, however. But at each one, "nothing like the cascades!" There was a bike trail from Ironwood to Bessemer--about 4 1/2 miles, which got me off the highway for a bit. Finished up in Wakefield. 51.75 miles, 5:05."
Mom and dad are spending Sunday in Wakefield at a local ward and taking a rest day. Back at it on Monday!
