2019, Day 3: Eagle Scouting

Sometimes it's quietest just before the storm. This particular storm was from a hole in the tire, which blew the tube, and made dad stop and use his Eagle Scout skills to replace the tube on the shoulder of the highway. Good thing Dad's always prepared!

From Dad:

"Tail and side winds today. Sunshine led to a little burn on the knees because I forgot the sunscreen. About the 37 mile mark I punctured a tire. I had mom come back with my tools. I changed out the tube, but with the hole in the tire, it only lasted 4 or 5 miles. I made it one mile beyond my plan--I could have done so much more! Even after missing a turn in Crookston and going a mile out of my way, I think I could have gone another 15. But, then, my legs probably would have really burned.

We took the bike to a shop back in Grand Forks. The owner dropped everything and took care of me on the spot. New tire and tube, adjusted my brakes, and we are set for tomorrow. I rode 41.5 miles in under 4 hours, including about a half hour for tire repair on the road."
