Apparently Dad and I weren't on the same page last year, and I didn't get his final entry, which is why they started out in Lakota this year, and not Devil's Lake like I'd predicted. Awkward. So, in the spirit of Better Late than Never, here is dad's final entry from last year:
"I worked so hard for such meager results! The headwinds were back today. At first it was just a gentle breeze, partly from the side. But as the day progressed, they got stronger, I got weaker, and the bike went slower. After toiling for four and a half hours, I reached Lakota, having gone 39.2 miles. That leaves me 60+ miles short of Grand Forks. It looks like I will not reach Minnesota this year. This evening we drove around Devils Lake--the town, and across Devils Lake--the lake. The lake is natural, covering 330 square miles, and is mostly on the Spirit Tribe Indian reservation."
