2018, Day 5: I'm Sensing a Pattern...

The North Dakota Curse continues. Listen, at some point you have to start wondering if it's you. Where's my lucky rabbit foot? Did someone flip my horseshoe? Maybe there's a voodoo-competent witch out there somewhere with a grudge. In Dad's words:

"I am developing a deeper understanding and appreciation for the term “windswept prairie.” This morning I changed my riding direction (due north out of Williston) and the headwind made the same change of direction: out of the north, even stronger than yesterday. Combined with three good hills, it took an hour and a half to go the first 12 miles. After I turned east again, it became a side wind, maybe even a little tailwind, and I made much better time. Completed nearly 45 miles in 4:56 time. About half way along the ride, I broke a spoke, and my rear tire got a little wobbly. We could not locate a single bike repair shop in Williston. So I called ahead to one in Minot and set up to drop it off at noon tomorrow. I will have to cut tomorrow’s ride short a couple of hours. One thing that makes Linda happy—the highway has really wide shoulders—6-8 feet wide. So I am away from the traffic."
