Today was a quick ride. Started early--before 7:00, so had cool weather to work with. Wind picked up early also, blowing me along. The hills I had today would not have even been on my radar last week. Made great time. Finished at Hinsdale, Montana, at a milepost 513. So that's 513 Montana miles, plus the day and a half riding in Idaho. Total 601.75 miles. I calculated the total miles before finishing to make sure I would go over 600. Finished at 10:35--mearly 42 miles in 3:40.

Done for another year! We drove back as far as Helena to spend the night. I was talking to a clerk in a convenience store. He said, "I used to be a long distance rider. I would do this pass over the mountain and when I got to the bottom of the hill there was a sign that said 'mandatory chain removal.' After that it was just hard to get going again!" Great wisdom for the end of my trip.
