"Took the bike to the Sports Store. Talked with the guy who would fix it. He couldn’t get to it until 10:00 because he was the only one running the store that early, but said he would get on it as soon as he could. Then he said he could true up the wheel, and noted a couple of other things that needed attention. He had the work done by 11:00, so we loaded up the bike and headed for Republic. Got there about noon, so would be riding in the heat of the day. The first 8 miles were up and down, mostly up. Fairly steep. Then 10 miles of 6% grade to Sherman Pass. Took 3 ½ hours to get to the top. Then 12 miles of steep downhill which I covered in less than 30 minutes. After that, mostly down hill to the Columbia. After 1 mile steep grade up on to the plateau, 9 miles of fairly flat riding to Colville. Rode right in to our campground."
